Top Notch Service

Stayed at the Shangri-La on Feb 19 for 1 night and had a very enjoyable stay. Staff was attentive from the Valet parking to front desk to concierge. We were disappointed with the lack of acknowledgement from Lobby Lounge staff when we wanted to have dessert and coffee; they were too busy cleaning other tables to greet us and see if we needed anything; the lounge was hardly busy and wasn't closing for another hour! Beds and pillows were not that comfortable; although there is a pillow menu that was hidden in the night table drawer which we only saw when we were getting ready to leave the hotel. We would be back to check out the restaurant, high tea and spa.

First class experience

Beautiful hotel room, heated marble floors, auto -push button blinds, first class everything. The Mirage Hammam Spa was terrific, we had the Hammam Grommage and the couples for 2 massage! Beautiful facilities, upscale, and professional. My husband and I had a wonderful time at this hotel. Just to note that if you want to eat at the downstairs restaurant (Bosk), you have to make prior reservations (I believe they are busier on the weekends). I was unpleasantly surprised when I was told that I had to make reservations for breakfast, but the waitress made our next day's breakfast reservations for us. Overall we had a great time and the staff was very professional.

Disappointing Service

In particular, this review concerns the lounge and dining experience. We must have come on training day. Food is cheap, but dining out is expensive because you are paying for so much more than for the ingredients. Principally the service would come to mind as the foundation for good experience. The issue: Getting seated with a reservation seemed like a chore. Despite coming early, our pre-arranged reservation was not fulfilled. What was troubling, for a premium property, was that response was gave the usual 'so sorry', but it was an empty take it or leave it proposition. Resolution skills demonstrated were amateur for such a class of hotel - especially because the manager was in charge of the discussion. We did stay due to the nature of the occasion, but I would have preferred not to. Still after letting it go, I found that the some items brought out were not up to the usual standard. Some of the pre-prepared items were let to stand too long and were now partially hardened. A disappointing finish. We have been here before and I had an average impression, but this time I am certain the hotel did not meet the standards for customer service that I know it sets for itself. Don't be fooled by price alone as the determination of quality. Consistency throughout the hotel is important and it must be proven every time - by every interaction to earn customer loyalty. Service must completely meet the standards of a hotel at this level otherwise you might as well save and go to the food court (or go the Ritz down the street if you are still in the spending mood).

Brilliant!!

What a hotel, fantastic location within easy walk of the tower and the Maple Leaf Centre. Rooms are large and modern with large TV and minibar! Pool is funky and half way up the building offering great views of the city and the CN Tower. Staff are friendly, helpful and engaging! Cost was reasonable...would deffo stay again!

impeccable

details of stay: occasion = wife's birthday; room = premier suite; booking = thru hotel and not a 3rd party site. perfect and faultless stay from start to finish. I am a difficult, picky, tough, and demanding customer... but even I could not help but be impressed at every turn. my expectations were exceeded by every single staff member at this hotel. they made this a memorable, luxurious stay that will linger long in the memory, and makes us want to return for every special occasion. simply put, this experience makes every other hotel seem distinctly lower class. My kudos to the mgmt of shangrila Toronto: long may you maintain this standard of 1st class hospitality, and give your staff a pat on the back: they were Impeccable.
