Great rooms, location and views in Central Cape Town

I recently stayed at the Westin while on a business trip. This was my first visit to the Westin and on arrival I was welcomed with an upgrade to a superior suite and given access to the executive floor for drinks and breakfast. The hotel is in a great location at the entrance to Cape Town city center and right next door to the convention center - with easy access to the city and the waterfront. They also have a regular complimentary shuttle service to the waterfront which is a added bonus. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable with a full bathroom which includes separate enclosures for the shower and toilet. The beds are extremely good and the linen provided is of top quality to ensure a very peaceful nights rest. There is a desk which makes working in the room easy and a good mini bar and numerous TV stations to keep you occupied. The 19th floor executive bar and restaurant is a must if you are fortunate enough to get onto the executive level. They offer complimentary drinks and snacks in the evening both of which are recommended. On the evening that I was there the 19th floor restaurant was unfortunately booked out for a private function but the hotel still provided drinks and snacks in the downstairs bar area - which was greatly appreciated. The breakfast on the 19th floor the following morning was also very good with everything you need for all tastes and considering it is West facing the views over the harbor and the city bowl are stunning and leaves a lasting memory in the morning. I did not eat dinner in the hotel so cannot comment on the rest of the restaurants. The hotel offers underground parking has a great gym and spa and is really well situated for the business as well as the holiday traveler.

Beautiful but boring corporate hotel

As much as I wanted to hate staying at a boring generic business hotel next to a convention center, this hotel did impress! Yes, it's a boring hotel. But the rooms were beautiful (I stayed on the 10th floor) with "rain" showerheads and a separate toilet room, comfortable beds, and a nice working space. The gym was surprisingly small for a hotel with 400+ rooms with free weights, a couple of weight lifting machines, three treadmills, but the view from the 19th floor was amazing. The breakfast buffet featured both western and eastern (Japanese) cuisine with a great assortment of freshly made juices, breads, and fresh fruit. Unfortunately very little "local" cuisine - it would be great to have some koeksisters!

Wonderful Staff

As is so often the case it is people who make the difference in a hotel that sets itself high standards. I was extremely impressed with the quality of staff at the Westin Cape Town from the charming gentleman at check in to the restaurant staff and everyone in between. I was here on business but having been in Cape Town for pleasure in the past I would say that this hotel wouldn't perhaps be to every tourists taste given its slight lack of proximity to the Waterfront. That said, for walking in to town for the brilliant "first Thursday of the month" and the myriad restaurants available it was absolutely perfect. I see very little to criticise in the hotel. I can't comment on price as I didn't pay but I understand it was reasonable. It probably goes without saying that Cape Town is extraordinary. I cannot recommend the city highly enough.

Westin Cape Town is one!

In our travels we would rate the Westin Cape Town as one of the best we have stayed in. Room and view were beautiful as we were facing the harbor on the 18th floor. The staff were tip top and even the shopping was great. We would stay here again in a minute!

Pretty good but pretty pricey

the rooms and breakfast are top notch. No complaints there. The staff could do with improving their attitudes a bit. They can occasionally be a bit surly. Perhaps they are not empowered enough or afraid of making a mistake? Location is excellent and it's all what you'd expect in a Westin. It would need to be for the price. There is a spa on the top floor but I'm not sure if all guests have access to this. It's excellent too.
