Waste of time and money!!!

On the day of our visit by chance i see an email. The knightmare began there really. I contacted the hotel immediately and was informed there was a issue with our credit card and stated I couldnt pay there and then over the phone with alternative card and it wouldn't matter as we had lost our room, they would discuss options on arrival. So we had the horror of travelling into cental London without knowing what was gonna happen all ready. On arrival was told they wouldnt do anything till 6pm (Arrived 16:40) and that we would have to be transferred to The M Shoreditch. After exsplaining that wasn't an option as we had made arrangements at a local restaurant and had parked are car in the NCP next next door we had to wait in the lobby while other happy guest booked in while my distraught wife had a breakdown it was only at 6pm they told us a room had become available at the hotel. I wish it ended there after paying full price for a club double we was expecting. we was escorted to a basement room 903 with a scenic view of a brick wall as was not the quality I would expect of a club double which we had paid for no complimentary water or fruit one rope and slippers between us to share and only thing which was complimentary was the mold growing in the bathroom celling Its my belief now that room 903 wasnt a club double that we booked in septmeber and payed full price for at front desk and we wasn't told of a downgrade if indeed I'm correct that this wasnt a club double. The room also stank of smoke even after waiting till 6:30 pm for it to be cleaned before we was allowered in and we was late for are restaurant booking my wife and i are deeply dissatisfied with the whole experience and ruined our what was ment to be our special anniversary.

A little unusual.....

The Marble arch by Montcalm is tiny. I've stayed at a couple of the Montcalm group hotels before and know that they can vary in quality. The Marble Arch was unusual, at check in we were told there was a reservation hiccup and were shown to a room that was blatantly unacceptable for £300. We were moved out of the basement to a room on the fourth floor....right at the very top with a window looking directly upwards. The room was still very small, but actually so was the hotel. It was nicely finished, lovely robes, slippers and complimentary water. It was a little noisy but nothing too intrusive as we were only there for a night. The staff were all very friendly and did remind me of the other Montcalm hotels I'd stayed in. I would go back and I am in 2 weeks for Winter Wonderland....so I'll report back again to see if my experience was a one off or if it's just a little quirky!

This is 2 stars maximum, definitely not 5 stars, horrible experience

We were moved (they said upgraded - but forgot about that) to this place because with valid reservation in Shaftesbury Suites London Marble Arch (this also belongs to Montcalm) and our appearance on time we have have been told that they do not have 3 rooms for us which were booked..... and they did not have another 2 rooms for guests who were also supposed to arrive. So before going to Montcalm CHECK that they really have your room available because your reservation does not mean anything. They said (after being moved) that they have rooms only in the ground floor. And they said that in a strange way. So I joked: Does this mean that we will be living like Harry Potter below the stairs? haha ...... yes, this was not a joke from them, this is reality. OK, accepted. But they still looked strange .... so I asked again: Do the rooms have a window - I mean outside window? Strange looks from them and the answer was: Sort of. The reality is that 2 of our rooms have a window into a small courtyard but the third one has and internal window leading to a corridor where everyone is walking during the whole night .... So do not accept room 907 - you will never sleep peacefully. When we wanted to use safes, non of them work in all three rooms. OK, they finally repaired that. What they did not repaired is that you can walk out easily with all 3 of them as these are not fixed to anything. So enjoy. They finally said that we can use them ... I tried. I locked my computer in the safe and thought that it is OK. I was unpleasantly surprised that when I woke up at 6 am and tried to get it, I could not open it. Because there was a problem with a battery in one of our rooms, I asked them expressly to change the battery also in my room to prevent this. So I started to call the concierge and the operator - there is a push button on a phone in a room which was working in the other room. Another bad surprise. I was trying to reach them for almost 50 minutes and finally I dressed up and went to the reception asking them why they do not pick up my phone. And the receptionist said - I did not have any. So the fact is that these pre-prepared push buttons work only in some of their rooms but in the rest of them you have to push 0 .... but it is not written there and as I successfully used the push button in room 906 I really did not expect that this does not work in 904. So finally they send a guy to repair the safe and he said .... well the battery inside your safe is dead .... but that was supposed to be replaced 2 days ago. We should stay another 2 days but I must say that I never ever had such a bad experience with a hotel group like with Montcalm. By the way .... I forgot to tell that they originally sent an e-mail not even 24 hours prior to our arrival saying that they have problem with my credit card and that if we do not solve the problem by 6pm on the arrival date they will have to release our reservation .... we appeared at 4 pm and this is what happened ..... and to have more fun, I called my bank and the bank said that they never tried to check my credit card as there would be an evidence in the bank system and the bank does not evidence any. I have been to London for more than 100 times but this is really the most horrible experience. And this was a birthday gift for one of us. So you can imagine how we feel. Finally - another fried just case saying that his phone also does not work :)

Very nice for a short stay

This is a very nice hotel, rooms are small but clean and nicely decorated. My reviews are based on my personal likes of a good sleep, good shower, gym and good food. I only had breakfast and for the price in London it was excellent. The gym was ok, too many treadmills and no cross trainer plus not enough weights. There was enough equipment for a workout though. Shower was superb as was the whole cleanliness of the bathroom plus I had a good sleep. Staff were very helpful Overall I would recommend this hotel

Amazing staff

The team here are fantastic, they really made me feel welcome and tried to go out of their way for you. The fitness centre is great, treadmills, steppers, bikes, weights. There was a great restaurant attached to the hotel that had delicious vegan & gluten free meals that can be delivered to your room. 5 minute walk to the tube, Great shops, a boutique organic grocer. I will be back next year! Xx
